Huskies Steal Win Against LBSU
By Ben Renner
The Huskies iced Long Beach State last night in Seattle with a clutch late run led by Andrew Andrews.
I admit I didn’t think the Huskies would pull out the win against Long Beach State last night. Here’s a tweet I posted with the Huskies trailing in the second half:
If that lame tweet didn’t tip you off, I didn’t really think they could pull it off.
But somehow, Lorenzo Romar‘s crew came through in the second half. Romar had to pull out the ol’ impassioned sports speech at halftime to get his team to close out LBSU. Maybe it will be in the Romar biopic.
The Husky fans in attendance rained down oohs and ahhs on their hometown pups as Dejounte Murray and company threw down a never-ending series of dunks and alley-oops. Marquese Chriss also put on a show, scoring 27 points. He even grabbed a shot going up with both hands at one point. Murray led all scorers with 30 points. It was Murray who was the first to raise his hand in the locker room at halftime when Romar asked who still cared about the season. It turned out that Murray’s whole team cared for at least one half.
Chriss and Murray kept the Huskies in the game after halftime, but team leader and senior guard Andrew Andrews put the LBSU 49ers to bed for the evening. In a back-and-forth final five minutes, the Huskies took the lead 99-98 after a pair of Chriss free throws. Then Andrews proceeded to sink his final eight free throw attempts. Just stop fouling him, dude!
I did admit my mistake later on Twitter:
It still needs some more exclamation points, but I stand by my message.
