Seahawks nemesis Colin Kaepernick requested a trade from the 49ers last night, according NFL Network and ESPN.

Maybe Colin Kaepernick wants to get out of the division so he doesn’t have to take a pummeling twice a year. Kaepernick had a…shall we say rough season last year. He battled injuries and ineffectiveness for an awful 49ers team and was last seen getting benched for Blaine Gabbert. Yikes.

There are many implications from this news. First, it makes new 49ers coach Chip Kelly a liar. Kelly told reporters in a private media session at the combine yesterday that Kaepernick “wants to be here” and that “he’s excited about getting healthy getting going.” Coaches lying to reporters is nothing new, just ask Bill Belichick, but it shows further dysfunction in the Niners organization. It’s very difficult for me to suppress my glee.

Second, teams in desperate need of a quarterback are also finding it hard to suppress their glee. Our FanSided friends in Philadelphia have already started posting about the possibility of essentially a Kaepernick for Kelly trade, with Kaep replacing Sam Bradford for the Eagles. Teams all over the league that need quarterbacks all felt their ears prickle at the news. Third, unless Kelly is truly a miracle worker, the Niners will slide into the Twilight Zone of not having a quarterback, and Kelly will have to start from scratch. Again, the glee.

Kaepernick will cost the 49ers $11.9 million in guaranteed money if he remains with the team until April 1st. If his trade request is real, the Niners will undoubtedly be shopping their quarterback aggressively throughout March. There were signs that Kaepernick was done in San Francisco besides the benching for Gabbert. He is recovering from surgeries on his left shoulder, right thumb, and left knee, and he elected to have his own private doctors perform them this offseason, rather than team doctors. Plus, NFL quarterbacks don’t like getting benched for Blaine Gabbert midway through the season, something Kaep never forgot.

This could all be a parable for Seahawks fans. Be thankful for our drama-free quarterback and his awesomeness. Now we can all sit back and watch what the 49ers will do with their unhappy playboy quarterback and his mediocrity.
