8) Obafemi Martins scores goal of the season

Obafemi Martins had a lot to live up to in 2015, coming after a year in which he set franchise records for goals (17) and overall points (30). His performances saw him finish second in the MVP race, as he helped the Sounders win the Supporters Shield, for the best regular season record.

In the end, Martins fell short of expectations, but only because he missed 13 matches, due to injury. In that respect, he still enjoyed an impressive season, as he averaged a point per game.

In fact, the 31-year old’s 15 goals meant he finished just two short of his club record, despite playing in 10 less games. Among his 15 strikes was this beautiful effort against the Colorado Rapids, which ended up being voted Sounders goal of the season:

In some respects, 2015 was a case of what might have been for both Martins and the team in general. Rest assured, if he can remain healthy in 2016, the odds are that the Sounders will be in contention to win their first ever MLS Cup.
