Seattle Seahawks Seven-Round Mock Draft
Round 4 (130): Ladarius Gunter, Miami CB
Gunter is being rated anywhere from round 4 to undrafted free agent by most network scouts. I’m not sure if I am watching the same player as them. I think Gunter is a second-to-third round talent, and will be a successful cornerback in the NFL, if not a star.
He just looks like a Seahawk. Everything about him resembles the L.O.B. He lacks the top end speed to be rated highly, but everything else is there with Gunter. The size, the smooth change of direction, the ball skills, the hitting, the swagger etc.
Here are some other descriptions of his play. Tell me if they remind you of anyone.
“Very good height/weight with an ability to redirect from press coverage. Active, strong hands. Rips at the ball and wide receiver’s arms during attempted catch.” -NFL.com
“Flashed at Senior Bowl practices with a nose for the ball. Wrap-up tackler who is patient in run support and works to position of leverage and containment.” -NFL.com
“Blessed with an exciting combination of height and fluidity. Sports a long, tapered frame with broad shoulders and long arms, making him well-suited to handling coverage against today’s behemoth receivers. Loose hips, which allow him to smoothly turn and run with receivers from press coverage. Trusts his eyes and is aggressive towards the ball, whether in coverage or in run support. Shows good hand-eye coordination to rip at the arms of receivers as the ball arrives.” -Rob Rang, CBS Sports

Can’t think of the NFL comparison? I’ll give you a hint, his name rhymes with Myron Paxwell.
Even their weaknesses are similar.
“[Maxwell] will not be able to mirror shiftier receivers one-on-one. He is very aggressive and excels in press coverage, but he struggles to turn and run in man coverage.” -NFL.com
“[Gunter] is unable to consistently mirror and match in man to man and shows some tightness when attempting to open up and run.” -NFL.com
And their combine measurements?
Maxwell: 6’0″, 202 lbs, 9 1/2″ hands
Gunter: 6’1″, 202 lbs, 9 5/8″ hands
Ladarius Gunter WILL BE A SUCCESSFUL CORNERBACK IN THIS LEAGUE. And if he ends up in a good scheme fit like Seattle, he could be a star. Gunter would be an excellent pick-up for the ‘Hawks in the third round.
