Per Jason Cole, the the Seattle Seahawks’ dominant defense could be about to become even more dominant. Cole isreportingthat free agent DTNdamukong Suh‘s first choice is to play for Pete Carroll and the Seahawks.
The likelihood of this actually happening, given Seattle’s cap situation, is extremely small. Seattle already hasCliff Avril,Michael BennettandBrandon Mebanewho are all due $5 million or more in 2015. Not to mention the fact thatRussell Wilson,Byron Maxwell,Marshawn LynchandBobby Wagnerwill all be needing new contracts soon.
However, if Suh really does want to be a Seahawk, it is not an impossibility that they could make it work. According toSpotrac.com, Seattle currently has $23.3 million in cap space.
Ndamukong Suhwould elevate the NFL’s best defense to a level that is hard to imagine. But the question is, would Suh be a better use of the money than bringing in an offensive play-maker? And there are many available for Seattle to choose from:Demaryius Thomas,Dez Bryant,Randall Cobb,Jeremy Maclin,Julius Thomas,Jordan Cameronand many other playmakers hit free agency this off-season.

In terms of being a good fit, I don’t think there’s a better fit in the league for Suh than Seattle. Carroll allows his players to have personality, something that many coaches in the NFL don’t do. That is definitely part of the attraction for the outspoken Portland native.
Suh also would be a great fit on the field. Seattle’s defensive line was much more effective in 2013 when they had depth and a rotation on the defensive line.
He has the athleticism to line up over the center, guard or tackle depending on the situation, and could give them an up the field threat next to Brandon Mebane.
A lot of contracts includingRussell Okung,MebaneandTony McDanielare coming of the books after the 2015 season. If John Schneider and Carroll are willing to letMaxwellwalk in free agency, and are able to get Wilson and Suh to team friendly deals that work around the 2015 cap number, bringing inNdamukong Suhis theoretically a possibility.
Extremely unlikely, but a possibility.
