Super Bowl 49 Preview & Prediction

Wide Receivers

The receiving cores for the two teams are very similar. Both Seattle and New England are lead by small but quick and versatile guys in Doug Baldwin and Julian Edelman. Edelman obviously had more catches and yards, but that is due to the Patriots being one of the more pass-heavy offenses in the league, and Seattle being the most run-heavy offense in the league.

Per target, here are the numbers.

Edelman: 7.2 yards per target, 1 TD every 33.75 targets and a 68.1 catch percentage on balls thrown his way.

Baldwin: 8.4 yards per target, 1 TD every 32.7 targets and a 67.3 catch percentage on balls thrown his way.

So taking into account the difference in styles between the two teams, the numbers are extremely similar.

Jermaine Kearse and Brandon Lafell are the second leading receivers for the two teams, and are also very similar receivers in terms of style and skill.

Overall, neither team has a guy that can kill you, but both teams have solid and consistent guys.
