Percy Harvin Traded To Jets: A Knee-Jerk Reaction

Percy Harvin traded?

According to Jay Glazer, the sentence above is in fact really happening.

The Seattle Seahawks will receive a conditional draft pick from the New York Jets.  It sounds like it’s not a first or second round pick either.

This boggles my mind.

The way I see it, if you can’t figure out how to use a guy after seven games, you keep trying to make it work. Especially with someone as talented as Percy. This team needs playmakers right now. Someone who can spark the rest of the offense. A guy like Percy Harvin.

I can see where they’re coming from with Percy making over $11 million and all, but this offense needs him right now.

The Hawks now have a glaring need at WR unless one, or both, of the two rookies can step up. Paul Richardson has one catch for seven yards so far this season, while Kevin Norwood has yet to play due to injuries. Both showed they are capable receivers in training camp, but can they produce consistently enough for the ‘Hawks offense to not become worse than it already is with the loss of Harvin?

I guess the positive here is that it creates some financial room, something we have not had in a while. Budgeting up for the contracts of Earl Thomas, Richard Sherman and Russell Wilson has restricted Seattle’s options in aquiring players the last few years.

But regardless, it feels a little too soon to be giving up on such a rare talent.
