Despite the Seattle Sounders taking a second straight day off from training on Monday, there was still plenty to keep fans occupied. As the Seattle Times reported, the MLS Players Union released details of all player salaries for the 2014 season.
Unsurprisingly, Clint Dempsey comes first on the Sounders roster, with guaranteed compensation standing at $6,695,188.75 (second only to Kaka in Orlando). At the opposite end of the spectrum, defender Dylan Remick is due to receive $36,500 in total.
Nigerian striker Obafemi Martins was revealed to be guaranteed compensation totaling $1,753,333.33. Given that he leads the team in both goals (15) and assists (10), it appears to be money well spent.
Another player of interest was Lamar Neagle, who co-led the Sounders with 20 points last season, and has continued to impress in 2014. With guaranteed compensation of $11o,000.00, it could be argued that he has been a steal during his third stint in Seattle.
In total, the Sounders have 30 players featured on the list. The team’s combined base salary is $9,396,634.00, with guaranteed compensation of $11,504,761.20.
