I don’t know what Lloyd McClendon is saying to the Seattle Mariners behind closed doors. Maybe he is a nice man, and has a lot of encouraging things to say. Perhaps he has already put together some fiery speeches and threatened to make changes if the Mariners don’t start hitting more consistently.
The Mariners are off to a decent start this season, but the offense is starting to struggle a bit and many of the hitters are beginning to slide into familiar patterns. All is not lost after a 2-3 homestand, but the Mariners have to be careful that they do not settle into a fourth-place mentality in late April. It may be time for a little pep talk from the movie “Bull Durham” . Be warned that this clip has a bit of adult content, so hide the children.
“This is a simple game. You throw the ball. You hit the ball. You catch the ball. You got it?!?”
Hard to argue with Bull Durham. You don’t want Lloyd McClendon throwing the bats into the shower. Go to it, Mariners. No lollygagging.
