Jared Allen has decided to the join the Seattle Seahawks. As reported by ESPN, the former member of the Minnesota Vikings will sign a contract as soon as today (Thursday). Terms of the deal have not been announced, but one has to assume that Allen may have lowered his asking price of $10-12 million per year.
Allen has 128.5 sacks in his career and he posted 11.5 sacks in 2013. His career high was 22 sacks, which he posted in 2011. He played his first four years with the Kansas City Chiefs and spent the next six seasons with the Minnesota Vikings. Allen had stated that he might retire from the game if he did not receive a fair deal.
Apparently he got a “fair” deal from the ‘Hawks.
It will be interesting to hear why Allen decided to join the Legion of Boom. Maybe the Seahawks did actually come closer to his asking price. Perhaps Allen really does want to chase a ring, and recognized that the Seahawks will provide him with the best opportunity for winning the Super Bowl.
