For a moment, there was the outside possibility that Red Bryant could return to the Seattle Seahawks if he was willing to sign a more affordable contract. That moment has passed.

The big defensive end signed a four-year deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars, leaving the best team in the NFL for one of the worst. Apparently money talks, and Bryant needed a job. Jacksonville didn’t waste a lot of time.

Jags head coach Gus Bradley (and former defensive coordinator of the Seahawks) apparently decided that he would like to recruit a familar face. Whether Bryant can improve one of the worst defenses in the league remains to be seen. Without his talented Seattle teammates, big Red may find life to be a little harder on the defensive line.

Bradley has grabbed a few former Seahawks since he became the head coach of the Jags. Does this mean that Sidney Rice will be signing with Jacksonville in the coming days? Rice also needs a job.

I suppose you could argue that this is a sign that the ‘Hawks are doing something right, besides the obvious Super Bowl win. Clearly the success of the Seahawks goes far beyond one or two cap casualties, but someone like Red Bryant could possibly help a team like Jacksonville.

Without the salary cap, Bryant might still be in Seattle. But, these are the tough decisions that teams have to make and Bryant was just too expensive for the Seahawks to keep in 2014.

Best wishes, Mr. Bryant. Thanks for the memories and for your help winning a Super Bowl.
