Succeeding their expressive triumph over enemy San Francisco Sunday night, the 2-0 Seattle Seahawks get to regroup and defend at home for their next day out, a confrontation with the 0-2 Jacksonville Jaguars Sunday afternoon at CenturyLink Field (4:25 pm ET, CBS).
In what could turn out to be the biggest NFL point-spread in many seasons, Seattle was an early 20-point favorite over the Jags, who just lost in Oakland and will stay on the West Coast this week, instead of making another cross-country flight.
As if Jacksonville’s assignment isn’t discouraging enough, they face a Seattle team that is 8-2 against the spread in its past 10 games as the favorite. And they are 16-3 ATS in their past 19 home games. Now they have to cover a 20 point spread.
Gamesters looking to back the visiting Jaguars in this one found them as 16.5-point Underdog earlier in the week, while the total was blinking in the neighborhood of 40.5 at shops such as 5Dimes.
You don’t have to bet every game – but early money points towards a bettors play in this card between the No. 1-rated Seahawks and the No. 32-ranked Jaguars, according to the NFL Power Rankings at sportsbook.com
In their last exploit, Jacksonville was a 19-9 dud on the road against the Raiders.
Offensively, the game pits Seattle’s No. 19-ranked offense (20.5 PPG) against a Jaguars defense that ranks No. 17 at 23.5 PPG. The Seahawks passing attack has averaged 209 yards per game, more than the Jaguars allow through the air (142.5 YPG on average).
In paralleling defenses, the Jaguars own the league’s No. 23-rated front 7 in terms of preventing the run, permitting 134 yards per game on the road. Seattle, however, rates No. 3 this week in producing rushing yards at home.
