The 2012 winner of the Golden Spikes Award, which is awarded to the best hitter annually in collegiate baseball, has torpedoed through the M’s farm system and already found his way to the Major League level. Maybe there was some pre-determined destiny or fate involved, as Zunino attended Mariner High School in Cape Coral, Florida before finding his way to school at the University of Florida. Baseball America currently has Zunino as the 17th best overall prospect in all of baseball and while he has gotten off to a slow start at the big league level, he has the respect and attention of Hall of Fame catcher Johnny Bench, who has personally endorsed his belief in the catcher talking about the superstar he believes he will become.
