While a sub-.500 finish this season may be leaving a sting on Mariners fans everywhere, there’s great hope and reason to believe it won’t always be like this. Here are the Mariners 5 main weapons that they possess to turn the franchise around:

5. Nick Franklin – 2B
Franklin was yet another member of the MLB.com Top 50 prospect list at the opening of the season and similarly to Miller, tore the cover off the ball down at Tacoma batting .324 with a .440 on-base percentage through 39 games at the triple-A level. While upon his call up, that gaudy batting average has gone much further south, Franklin has managed to keep his power numbers up with 12 homeruns this year. He fits the mold of a young player, only 22, who over time will develop into a better hitter from both sides of the plate with age. Along with Brad Miller at short, Franklin could help to combine for a potent 1-2 punch atop the Mariners order for years to come.
