Will the Seattle Mariners Make the Playoffs? (POLL)

facebooktwitterreddit

Welcome to the month of September. It is time for football season, and it is also time for baseball teams like the Seattle Mariners to decide whether they are in or out of the playoffs. 26 games to go. Now is the time to step up…or start booking offseason tee times.

There is a lot to like about this 2014 season. The Mariners are certainly better, which is evidenced by the fact that this poll is even happening.

From a statistical standpoint, the Mariners still have a +91 run differential, which is third-best in the American League and fourth-best in all of baseball. Granted, that has more to do with the pitching than the offense, but we’ll take it.

More from Seattle Mariners

Speaking of pitching, Felix Hernandez has been sensational and Hisashi Iwakuma has also be great. Chris Young has been a pleasant surprise and the bullpen has been dominant.

The offense has certainly not been fantastic, but Robinson Cano has had a very positive influence on this team. Seattle swung the bat particularly well in the month of August, and you almost get a sense that this group of hitters could actually develop some genuine confidence in their ability to score runs.

Almost.

So, here we are. Just a few weeks to go. Lots of divisional foes on the horizon, and plenty of opportunities for this season to still go sideways.

Will the Mariners make the playoffs for the first time in forever? Or, will they wilt in the summer heat?

We have reached the end of a long season. Soon we will know whether fans can buy playoff tickets or whether they will have to utter “wait until next year” one more time.
