Newton Wants to Play Sherman in Madden: A Lame Challenge

facebooktwitterreddit

Cam Newton obviously wants to be on the cover of Madden 15. The fans have spoken, and we have reached the finals. In a few days we will know whether Newton will grace the cover, or if the newest version of the popular video game will feature Richard Sherman of the Seattle Seahawks.

Newton has taken to the Internet as he campaigns for the cover. His video rant includes a personal challenge to Sherman. Newton wants Mr. Sherman to play him in Madden. The video is here:

I understand that Newton likes to play video games, but what exactly is this supposed to prove? Why not a game of chess? Or, perish the thought, something that actually has to do with football?

To be honest, I don’t even know if Sherman plays video games. Let’s assume that Newton actually is the best gamer in the NFL, as he claims. Are we supposed to be impressed? There are also a lot of 13-year-olds that are pretty good at video games and I have doubts about them pursuing a career in their craft.

Maybe Mr. Newton should spend more time with a football in his hand and less time with a controller. If you’re Richard Sherman, perhaps you accept this challenge for the fun of it. However, it may be all the more satisfying if this contest includes a Madden 15 version with Sherman on the cover.

Why do I have a feeling that Newton might get a copy made up with him on the cover, even if he loses this fan-driven contest?

Voting closes June 6, and you can vote here. May the best player (gamer?) win.
