Time to rejoice, Seahawks fans.  It was officially announced today that Richard Sherman has agreed to terms on a long-term contract extension with the team.  This come on the heels of the news last week that fellow “legion of boom” member Earl Thomas signed a four-year extension worth $40 million.  That contract made Thomas the highest paid safety in the NFL.

According to reports, Sherman’s deal could be worth as much as $57.4 million over four years. $40 million of the contract is guaranteed, which is a huge amount in today’s NFL.

Re-signing both Sherman and Thomas were obvious priorities for the Seahawks, who dominated in just about every defensive statistic last season.  Keeping together their core defensive unit was thought of as vital to the team’s success.

Mission accomplished.
