Fantasy football is an underground phenomenon that is just now starting to gain traction among many sports fans across America. OK, that’s an absolute lie. The truth is that there aren’t many things out there that are more popular than fantasy football. Dr. Pepper, McDonald’s and that’s about it. Trust me, I did the research.

Week one saw its first game and if you had Peyton Manning, congrats on winning your week one matchup.

This week the Seahawks face off against the Carolina Panthers and I want to take a look at how ESPN has the Seahawks projected for the matchup in Carolina. For reference, I’m going to include the highest projected non-Seahawks players at each position as well.

Name – Fantasy Points

Quarterbacks

  • Tom Brady – 23
  • Cam Newton – 23
  • Russell Wilson – 21

Running Backs

  • Adrian Peterson – 17
  • CJ Spiller – 17
  • Marshawn Lynch – 15
  • Robert Turbin – 3
  • Christine Michael – 0

Wide Receivers

  • Calvin Johnson – 16
  • Larry Fitzgerald – 15
  • Sidney Rice – 12
  • Golden Tate – 11
  • Doug Baldwin – 2

Tight Ends

  • Jimmy Graham – 14
  • Vernon Davis – 12
  • Zach Miller – 2

Defense

  • Patriots – 8
  • Buccaneers – 8
  • Seahawks – 5

Kicker

  • Matt Prater – 15
  • Stephen Gostkowski – 12
  • Steven Haushka – 9

What most jumps out at me is that Zach Miller is getting very little respect in this weeks projections. Maybe it has to do with his foot injury in training camp but he seems to be healthy now.

Also, Cam Newton is tied with Tom Brady for the highest projection for a QB even though he’s facing the toughest defense in the NFL.

We’ll compare the projections after week one to see how accurate ESPN was with not only the Seahawks, but the other players on the list.
